Precinct 2 - Larry Argenbright
Duties
These peace officers are the first link in the county's chain of
law enforcement.
Along with their deputies, constables have all the enforcement
powers of Texas peace officers. They are sometimes referred to as
the executive officer of the justice of the peace courts. Their
duties are to:
- Subpoena witnesses;
- Act as bailiff;
- Execute judgments; and
- Service of process
The constable may also assist the
county and district courts. In addition, they may perform patrol
functions and make criminal investigations. They are involved in
the overall effort to reduce the effects of crime in their communities,
including in some cases, the operation of truancy programs.
Department Description:
The constables are to serve a variety of judicial processes and
notices and serve as bailiffs of the District Court, County Court
at Law and Justice of Peace Court when necessary. Constables are
elected to four year terms of office by their respective precincts.
Department Objectives:
Goals of this department are: to serve the citizens and merchants
of Hopkins County; to uphold and carry out the laws of the State
of Texas; to cooperate with other Justice of the Peace, Constables
and law enforcement agencies.
Hopkins County Constable Precinct 2 is comprised of Commissioner Precincts one and two. It covers approximately 420 square miles and contains approximately 500 miles of county, state and Federal roads and 16,000 residents.
