4-H & Youth
Preparing youth to be positive, contributing members
of society is certainly one of the most important tasks facing our
society today. The 4-H & Youth Development Program of the Texas
Agricultural Extension Service ahs been a key player in the field
of youth development since its modest start in 1908. In recent years,
between ten and fifteen percent of all Texas youth between the ages
of five and nineteen have been enrolling as 4-H members or 4-H Clover
Kids each year. This year the Texas 4-H enrolled over 1 million
members to set a milestone for 4-H. Annually, approximately 50,000
adults volunteer their time, talents and resources in support of
the 4-H & Youth Development Program.
In working with youth and adult volunteers we develop
life skills, leadership, responsibility & cooperation with projects,
structured meetings and events. Character education and ethics are
emphasized and taught in creative ways leaders and club managers.
We would invite any youth interested in this type
of program to contact us for more information. Educational programs
conducted by the Texas Agriculture Extension Service serve people
of all ages regardless of socioeconomic level, race, sex, religion,
disability or national origin. In order to accommodate all person
with disabilities for our meetings/programs, we request that you
contact the Hopkins County Extension Office at (903) 885-3443 two
weeks before an event so accommodations can be made.
