HERITAGE MUSEUM
Step into the past at the Hopkins County Museum
and Heritage Park. The history of Hopkins County will come alive
as you see the items used by early residents and walk among
historical buildings in the eleven-acre park.
The Museum is housed in the architecturally distinct
George H. Wilson house, build in 1910. The unique design of
the house can be seen in the shape of the rooms, the shape of
the roof, the domed ceiling and the thick walls. Each wall is
composed of double-bricked and covered with plaster.
The items on display are of general interest and
were donated by members of Hopkins County families. Displays
include women's apparel, household items, Civil War memorabilia,
a doll collection and Caddo Indian relics. A gift shop features
books on local and regional history.
Early agricultural equipment is displayed on the
grounds at Heritage Park. Old buildings from Hopkins County have
been moved to the park and are in various stages of restoration.
Some notable structures are a working blacksmith shop, the first
brick home in the county, a country store and post office, a
bandstand, a syrup mill, a grist mill and log houses and farm
buildings.
