Butch Adams
Biographical Information:
Sheriff Adams grew up in Wood County and moved to Hopkins County in 1977. He is married to Beth Allen and together they have three sons. He worked for 19 1/2 years at the Sulphur Springs Police Department before becoming Sheriff.
DUTIES
Long respected as the county's top lawman, the sheriff has a range
of duties that include criminal investigations, traffic enforcement,
operation of the jail and other responsibilities.
Duties of the sheriff include:
- Providing security for the operation of county and district
courts;
- Enforcing traffic laws, other county ordinances and other state
laws;
- Service of process;
- Acceptance bail for prisoners in his custody;
- Conducting sales of seized and unclaimed properties; and
- Taking charge of and responsibility for the county jail and
prisoners.
Department Description:
The Sheriff's Department provides the following services to the
citizens of Hopkins County: crime prevention, court testimony, prisoner
transport, special event support, emergency response, patrol, criminal
investigations, narcotic enforcement, warrant service, bailiffs
for courts, civil services and dispatching services. The Sheriff
is elected to a four year term of office by the citizens of Hopkins
County.

to reduce the inmate jail population
