Do You Need to Register to Vote?

To vote in Texas, you must be registered. If you need to register to vote, you may obtain a Voter Registration Application by using one of the following options:

• Download and print the Texas Voter Registration Application (PDF)

• Call the Hopkins County Elections Office at 903-438-3036

• Pick up an application at locations throughout Hopkins County, including post offices, libraries, and Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) offices

You may also fax your application to 903-558-2028. If you fax your application, the original hard copy must be received by our office within four business days. Please write “Application was faxed” at the top of the application.

Renewing Your Driver’s License Online?

When renewing your driver’s license through the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) website, you may be provided a link to update your voter registration information. Please note that you must complete the form, print it, and mail it to the Hopkins County Elections Office.

Who Can Register to Vote?

You are eligible to register to vote if you:

• Are a United States citizen

• Are a resident of Hopkins County

• Are at least 17 years and 10 months of age

• Are not a convicted felon (unless you have completed your sentence, including any incarceration, probation, or parole)

• Have not been determined by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote

Important Information

To vote in an election, you must be registered to vote. Your voter registration application must be submitted at least 30 days before an election date.

In Texas, voters do not register by political party. Voters register in the county where they currently reside.
